The FAI was founded in 2013 by leading functional aging experts Dan Ritchie, PhD and Cody Sipe, PhD. For over 15 years, Dan and Cody have been at the forefront of developing innovative, effective and science-based training programs for their older clients. Over the past 8 years they have shared their unique philosophies, techniques and insights with tens of thousands of trainers around the world. During that time they reviewed almost every “senior fitness” certification program on the market and could not find any that met their high standards. They decided then and there to create high quality certifications that would help fitness professionals to be more successful with the fastest-growing client base in the world…adults 55 and over. A team of highly-acclaimed experts is being assembled to develop content and help reach FAI’s goal of 10,000 certified fitness professionals in 5 years.

JR Burgess, MS
As I was pursuing my master’s degree, I was working at Gold’s Gym as a certified personal trainer. While training, I found a love for helping people who battled with obesity and other health related issues, stemming from their obsession over food and lack of physical activity. In Grad School, I took any course that would help me better serve this growing population of people. I found that it was best to get these people on a solid nutrition plan and guide them through everyday struggles and poor lifestyles choices. At that time, the “Biggest Loser” was just becoming a huge hit, and I believed that was the example to follow in my own attempt to battle obesity. I spoke with Dr. Baumgartner many times about my passion to help people lose weight and gain control of their health. He also recognized the effects obesity has on one’s joints and overall health. I told him that I thought he would be the perfect backing for a venture such as this, given his medical degree and experience with these special populations. Months later he opened his practice.
We began working out of his clinic in Sartell, MN and started to develop a very successful practice. Our growth forced us to open a second location in Waite Park. We offer a full service weight loss program that boasts medical supervision by a Medical Doctor, registered dietician, nurse practitioner, athletic trainers, an exercise physiologist, physical therapists, and thirteen certified personal trainers. Our team specializes in working with special populations, and those looking to learn how to live a healthier lifestyle. We truly believe that exercise and proper nutrition are the best medicine for this ailment. We are asking for your help in fighting the obesity epidemic. Since then we expanded our business by creating Medical Fitness Platform so you can make a difference. We have already assisted many new practices follow the done for turn- key system we have created to help battle the obesity crisis.
